How Hazel Twenty Began
In 2014, Lexi DiYeso was a stay-at-home mom of three boys who started reselling J.Crew pieces on eBay. Selling online turned into selling in person when she converted a retired FedEx truck into a mobile boutique. The truck carried clothing, denim, jewelry, bags and accessories to breweries and festivals around Asheville, and shoppers started to look for it.
Four years later she was ready for a storefront. Hazel Twenty opened in December 2018 on Patton Avenue in downtown Asheville.
Where the Name Hazel Twenty Comes From
The name is personal. Hazel was Lexi's beloved Great Dane, and the number is the soccer jersey she wore at the University of South Carolina, where she studied retail and fashion merchandising. The degree and the jersey both ended up on the sign.
Meet Maisie and the Rest of the Family
About six months after opening, a French Bulldog named Maisie joined the shop and has been greeting customers ever since. The kids' boutique in the Asheville store is named for her.
During the pandemic, Lexi added Lex Twenty Menswear, with men's clothing, footwear and accessories and local beer on tap in the basement of the Asheville store. Kids' clothing from Bennie and Coco rounds out a boutique where the whole family can shop in one stop.
Recognized as a Biltmore Beacon 40 Under 40 Honoree
In 2016, Lexi DiYeso was named to the Biltmore Beacon 40 Under 40, an honor that recognizes young leaders. She earned it in the years between selling on eBay and opening the first Hazel Twenty storefront in 2018, while the business was still taking shape.
That same drive shows up in the shop today. The stores are run by someone who started with a stack of J.Crew finds and built something shoppers come back to, and it shows in how we style, how we stock and how we welcome you.
Two Stores, One Boutique
Both stores carry the same point of view: clothing you will actually wear, picked by people who will tell you honestly how it looks.
